Will Forte is one of J.D.'s first patients during his first year.

Will is an avid smoker, which Dr. Cox, Carla, and J.D. assume is what put him in the hospital. He smokes 2-3 packs of cigarettes a day. He is tested for cancer, but his results come back negative. As he is released from the hospital, he doesn't follow J.D.'s advice of quitting smoking.
