Sacred Heart Hospital is a private teaching hospital in San DiFrangeles, California. It offers emergency services, clinical help, and other medical processes. It has a large staff of surgical and medical doctors, and offers a great educational setting for medical students and interns.

About

Sacred Heart is a private hospital, as most hospitals in America are, which means budgetary problems often arise. It aims to offer the best care possible to the people who need it, but people are commonly unable to pay for the bills or are uninsured, so the help they need is not always the help they get. The hospital has some state-of-the-art facilities, but some areas of the building are in disrepair. The running of the hospital is influenced by the chief of medicine and by a Board of Directors. Dr. Kelso was formerly the chief of medicine but has since retired. There are no "No Smoking" signs.

The Staff

The staff of Sacred Heart Hospital are dedicated to the patients, and always try their best. Sometimes they work so hard their job takes over their lives. There is a strict hierarchy of power at Sacred Heart, but decisions are often challenged. The hospital employs some very experienced doctors down to interns, all who have the opportunity to learn from each other. The staff wears color coded scrubs. Medical doctors wear blue, surgeons wear green, nurses usually wear pink, red, purple or floral, and orderlies wear maroon colored scrubs.

Places

Break room

The break room is where doctors take their breaks and relax. It has a TV, resulting in Dr. Cox and Laverne Roberts watching soap operas. There is a Pac-Man machine and vending machines for the staff to use. The couches are used to lounge on, while there is a table where research and studying occurs. Patients and family members have been inside the break room, but it is intended for the medical, nursing, and surgical staff.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria inside Sacred Heart is always a sure spot to find something to eat. Like high school, sitting at the right table with the right people can add or take away from your credibility. It's hard for someone to eat alone without being bothered. The food seems to be tasty, as complaints are rarely heard.

Coffee Bucks

Dr. Kelso had the idea to open up a coffee shop in the hospital to bring in some extra revenue for Sacred Heart. It is a new hot spot to think or socialize. The Brain Trust sometimes meets in Coffee Bucks, but it is not exactly private. J.D.'s former intern Cabbage currently works there as well as Donny who supplies Dr. Kelso with his muffins from off-screen, and Janitor had worked there in the past. Dr. Kelso once won muffins for life from Coffee Bucks.

Elevators

The elevators not only carry people from floor to floor, but they also provide a quick private place to argue, kiss, or both. Some doctors and nurses are skilled enough to time the elevators so they close at the perfect moment to end a conversation. The elevators are large enough to hold many people.

Main entry

When patients or staff do not enter from the parking lot they use immediately come past the automatic glass doors into the main entry. There is a gift shop, nurses desk, and waiting area nearby to facilitate to the needs of patients and family members.

Nurses' stations

There are many nurses throughout Sacred Heart. If information is needed to be found, it can be found at a nurses' station. Because each patient requires a clipboard, the doctors stop by frequently to pick up or drop off clipboards or files, or to ask a nurse to do a procedure. All the stations have counters and computers, so if the internet or a surface to do some figuring is needed, it is done at a nurses' station.

Offices

Not everybody has an office, but the chief of medicine, Ted, and other people whose jobs require desks have offices. These offices are sometimes used (without permission) for other purposes such as group meetings. Ted's old office was located on the 2nd floor.

On-call room

When doctors are working night shifts on-call, they use the on-call room. The room offers several bunk-beds for taking quick naps, but due to the fast pace of Sacred Heart, even at night, sleep is often hard to achieve. Because it is a secluded area, many people have had intercourse in the on-call room, or at least attempted.

Operating rooms

If patients require surgery, they are taken to one of Sacred Heart's many operating rooms. There is a washroom and observation room of all of the operating rooms, where risky operations can be observed. Face masks are used in the operation rooms to keep them sterile and clean. Depending on the severity of the surgery, some surgeons will play music.

Parking lot

The staff of Sacred Heart mostly drive to work, and require a parking lot in which to park their vehicles. There is a parking lot behind the building which offers access to the main entrance and the emergency entrance. The parking lot also has a bench and a basketball hoop for recreational use. The parking lot has access to the rear entrance.

Patients' rooms

There are many patients' rooms in Sacred Heart, some are single and some more. Depending on the length of time and wallet size, a patient can have a private room or stay in the open area by the main nurses' station. Some rooms offer private restrooms and televisions.

The roof

The roof of Sacred Heart is a great place for members of the staff to meditate or contemplate a tough decision. It offers a decent view, and also is a great place to throw things off of. It is a great meeting place if you are looking for some place private, and can also be a romantic place to share a kiss. At one point in time there was a toilet on the roof.

ICU

The Intensive Care Unit is the most common place to find senior doctors and interns conducting rounds. It consists of a large open floor with several patients on beds, seperated by curtains. The main nurses' station is located in the ward.

Other places

Sacred Heart also includes rooms in a private clinic, locker rooms and showers for the staff, supply closets, meeting rooms, and other important rooms you'd expect to find in a hospital. Sacred Heart also has a Maternity Ward.
