"My Fifteen Minutes" is the eighth episode of Scrubs' first season. J.D. tries to get Dr. Cox to write him a glowing evaluation. Elliot finds out that Carla tried to get away from her when they went to a bar, and they lose their friendship.

SynopsisEdit

J.D. and Turk enjoy their new popularity.

As Turk and J.D. head to a strip club for lunch, they meet a group of protesters. A news team is covering the protest, and while an anchorwoman is interviewing the interns, the cameraman passes out. J.D. and Turk resuscitate him and are called heroes by the news channel. Dr. Kelso thinks it would be a good idea to milk their fame a little and makes billboards and posters with Turk on them. Turk gets upset that he is being portrayed as the "black doctor hero" and gets the posters taken down.

At the same time, all the interns are scheduled for evaluations. Elliot scores an A++ on her evaluation, and J.D. gets nervous when he finds out Dr. Cox will be evaluating him. When asked about the evaluation, Dr. Cox tells J.D. that he is too busy to evaluate him and tells J.D. to fill out his own evaluation form. After J.D. stands up to Dr. Cox the next day, Dr. Cox agrees to evaluate him. During the evaluation, Dr. Cox rips into J.D., saying his biggest problem is that he is insecure about himself. Unbeknownst to J.D., at a meeting with the board of directors, Dr. Cox gives him an excellent review.

Ninja stars hold J.D. up.

Meanwhile, Elliot is bored, and J.D. asks Carla to let her tag along on an outing. When Carla introduces Elliot to Patricia and her son Darryl, Elliot makes a fool of herself. Carla then tells everyone that they will have to cancel their plans. Later, at the bar, Elliot drinks alone. When Carla and Patricia walk in, Elliot realizes that she was lied to and runs out, almost crying. The next day, Elliot decides to go out for a night on the town by herself, but when she arrives downtown, she is scared of the homeless and other scoundrels. Carla apologizes the next day, but Elliot throws herself a pity party. Eventually, Elliot and Carla get on better ground when they realize they are at Sacred Heart for the same reason—caring for other people. Carla invites Elliot to come out with her and Patricia.

TriviaEdit

1x8sciencefair

Turk in a science fair.

  • On the Region 2 DVD, the image for this episode and the next one, "My Day Off", are switched.
  • J.D. claims that the 38 dollar bills in his pocket are the change from his "forty" when he bought a newspaper. However, there is no $40 bill in circulation. Then again, he had to come up with an excuse for his $1 bills for the reporter on the spot, so he probably just didn't think his response through.
  • Turk says that the reporter is married to the sound man. However, neither she nor the sound man are wearing wedding rings.
  • Ted is credited as "Lawyer".
  • Ted says he "had a wife and family" before he worked at Sacred Heart, yet in Season 8 he says that Gooch is his first girlfriend.
  • The billboards of Turk ran in real life to advertise the show.
  • When Turk and Carla are talking about Elliot, the clock behind Turk reads 2:25, then 2:20, and then 2:35 when J.D. arrives.
  • Ted says that when he started working for Dr. Kelso, he had hair. This is confirmed in a flashback in "My Waste of Time". However, in "My Best Laid Plans", Ted says that he lost his hair in the 8th grade.
  • Dr. Cox calls J.D. "Supergirl", an allusion to the DC Comics heroine.
  • The scene where Elliot goes downtown in a taxi, turns around a few times, and throws her hat alludes to the end of the introduction of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, where Mary basically does the same.
  • The posters and billboards promoting Sacred Heart include the phrases:
    • Wellness through diversity
    • Time to get an EKG, G
    • Our MD's have Mad Skills
    • WAZZUP? Your white blood cell count at Sacred Heart.
