Dr. Kim Briggs is a urologist at St. Vincent's Hospital, and the mother of J.D.'s child Sam Perry Gilligan Dorian.

Kim has worked at Sacred Heart as long as J.D.. Turk explains that J.D. is unable to see women who wear wedding rings and as Kim was married she went unnoticed by J.D.. She still wore her wedding ring despite being divorced for a while, to avoid being hit-on by her fellow colleagues. J.D. noticed her at the end of his fifth year. (My Urologist) J.D. works with Kim on a patient and becomes infatuated with her. J.D. pursues her and they go out on a date horse-back riding. Though it ends rather poorly, Kim had a good time and spends a night with J.D. on his half-acre. Two weeks elapse and Kim reveals to J.D. she is pregnant. (My Transition) Kim assures J.D. she is definitely pregnant and that she is certain it is his baby. J.D. and Kim debate whether or not to keep their baby eventually deciding not to abort. However, shortly after they decide to keep the baby, Kim is offered a another job in Tacoma, Washington which she takes. (My House)
J.D. takes a road trip to Tacoma to see Kim's ultrasound. (My Road to Nowhere) When he reaches the hospital in Tacoma Kim tells him she has had a miscarriage. As they live so far apart, and are seemingly no longer bound by a baby, Kim breaks up with J.D. However, Kim is seen getting the ultrasound revealing that she lied about having a miscarriage so that she could let J.D. go. Kim runs into J.D. at a medical conference. (My Conventional Wisdom) J.D. notices her obvious pregnancy, as she is now months into her pregnancy. Her major lie makes it very difficult for J.D. to forgive her, but he does so -- for his unborn baby. The two move in together, into J.D.'s flat, and become very close again. Just before delivering the baby, Kim finds out that J.D. is with her only because of the baby. She then breaks up with J.D., and delivers her child, Sam Perry Gilligan Dorian. (My Hard Labor)
Kim has moved back within a 37-minute driving distance of Sacred Heart, and J.D. now drops him off regularly at her apartment. She reveals to him and Elliot, who tags along because she is jealous of Kim, that she is dating Elliot's ex-boyfriend Sean Kelly. J.D. gets over his initial anger because he wants Sam to grow up in a loving environment. He then decides he wants to move closer to Kim so he can be a bigger part of Sam's life. (My Cuz)

Kim and J.D. have dated and and gotten pregnant together, but they are broken up but have a child, Sam.
Elliot and Kim are very good friends but after Kim lies about having a miscarriage, Elliot and Carla turn on Kim although Elliot feels bad about it. (My Road to Nowhere) After J.D. tells Kim there is no chance of them ever getting back together, everyone feels bad for her and starts treating her nicely and being mean to J.D.. Elliot becomes jealous of Kim when Elliot and J.D. begin dating, and her jealousy rises when Kim begins dating Sean, but the two come to terms and are happy to be "Bajingo sisters". (My Cuz)
Dr. Cox seems to like and respect Kim and is the only one friendly to her after everyone finds out about her lie to J.D. about having a miscarriage. Dr. Cox is still nice to her after that presumably because he doesn't care at all about anything that anyone does to J.D..
