Ritter was born in Burbank, California, on September 17, 1948. Ritter attended Hollywood High School, where he served as Student Body President. He went on to the University of Southern California, majoring in psychology. Ritter had three children with his first wife Nancy Morgan: Carly, Tyler, and Jason; and one daughter named Stella with his second wife Amy Yasbeck. John Ritter died on September 11, 2003 as a result of aortic dissection.
