Gosh darn it, Perry, you are entertaining. You know, like Howie Mandel or a monkey in a funny hat.Dr. Kelso

"His Story II" is the eighteenth episode of Scrubs' third season. Turk has hesitations about whether or not to mail his wedding invitations. J.D. dresses as a clown for Elliot causing her to question who is there for her. Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso fight over a woman.

SynopsisEdit

3x18 Turk Grace Cox

Grace chews out Turk in front of Dr. Cox

Dr. Cox picks J.D. to help him in research, but he quickly regrets this, and Lonnie is made his partner. Since J.D. already has his shifts covered, he has nothing to do, and the narration switches to Turk. Turk is about to mail in the invitations to his wedding, but doesn't due to J.D. saying that "after Turk turns those suckers in, there's no turning back". Turk has to operate on Brian, but introduces himself childishly, much to the displeasure of his attending. Turk learns that Brian is a pianist and that he has a scholarship for this, which is why it is especially bad that due to a complication Turk made in surgery, that Brian cannot play the piano. At first, Turk doesn't admit that it was his fault, but he eventually does. Turk's narration ends with him mailing the invitations.

Meanwhile, Elliot talks to Sean and says that she wishes he was with her. J.D. then meets Elliot, and he tells her that he is going to jump Jones' Creek on his bike (a dare from local kids), and Elliot is sad that she cannot perform as the clown in Pediatrics. Elliot then meets Mrs. Bell, a beautiful woman with a portly husband. J.D. helps Elliot and appears as the clown in her place, but he does a poor job and it turns out that the Janitor is also a clown, and he systematically abuses him. When Elliot learns from her patient that a good man is there for you when you don't ask and that J.D. was the clown for her, she has sex with J.D., before Sean walks in right after. Sean explains that he could tell Elliot needed him, and she abruptly runs off with him, leaving J.D. in the apartment alone.

Kelso invites Dr. Miller (Turk's attending) to an administrators lunch, but Dr. Cox doesn't want her to go, starting yet another war between the two, which ends in her going to the lunch but not caring about either one's opinion.

J.D. and Janitor as clowns

The Janitor appears as the other clown in the Pediatrics ward of the hospital, and, as usual, he mocks J.D. by hurting him in front of the kids and soaking him in seltzer water in front of Elliot.

TriviaEdit

  • This episode was originally scheduled for March 30th.
  • In this episode Elliot reveals that she spent a summer at a Clown school.
  • This is the first "Story" that uses the slow-mo echo sound of J.D. transferring his narration through bodily contact, whereas in the rest of the "Stories", a whooshing sound is used.
  • The clown subplot of this episode was inspired by the fact that one of the show's medical consultants actually once had to give a family bad news while wearing a clown costume.
  • Another reference to clowns in this episode is much more subtle, the scene where Turk has a fantasy of Carla trying to pull his invitations into the mailbox is VERY similar to a scene in Stephen King's horror film It. The main antagonist in the movie is a clown.
  • In this episode, Turk claims he has only ever made minor slip-ups before, however, in "My First Kill" he claims to have accidentley killed someone during his first year as surgeon.
  • When Carla explains that Turk needs to un-invite "that slut you went out with at high school", but Turk then explains she's married to his brother, even though Kevin Turk is only recently divorced, as shown in "My Brother, My Keeper".
