[edit] Synopsis

J.D. is afraid that his narration will ruin his relationship, so he decides to "stay out of his head", and passes on the narration to Carla in this episode.

Carla feels threatened by a new Hispanic nurse whom Janitor describes as a "young Carla". She, Jordan, Elliot and Julie Quinn go out for drinks, and the next day they are all massively hungover, except for Julie. After talking to Mrs. Wilk about age, Carla gets a fertility test. Well she tries to until she sees the new gynecologist, Dr. Matthews. He recommends that she doesn't get a fertility test unless she's over 35. 36 year old Carla says she's 29. Dr. Kelso steps in and tells her to get the fertility test, and the results come back positive. She and Turk celebrate with sex

J.D. and Julie's relationship is progressing fine, except J.D. cannot get over Julie's personal tic of saying "That's so funny!" instead of laughing. Turk and Elliot stage an intervention to help him avoid ruining his relationship because of such a small issue, but eventually J.D. and Julie split up when he realizes her visions of their future together do not quite match his.

[edit] Plot Points

  • Carla gets stressed about a combination of her age and why she isn't pregnant, so she takes a fertility test.
  • Turk helps J.D. get over his hate of Julie's habit to say "that's so funny!" instead of laughing.

[edit] Recurring Themes

[edit] Fantasies

  • Carla is insulted, so turns into a banshee and screams so ferociously that all the glass in the hospital smashes, including Turk, who is nicknamed "Glass man".
  • Carla imagines everyone in diapers when she can't stop thinking of babies, including J.D. (who proceeds to wet himself in a diaper).

[edit] Flashback

  • Turk remembers an ex-girlfriend with an annoying quirk: Whitney the Snapper.

[edit] Janitor story

Since Carla is narrating this episode, the Janitor focuses on her. He repeatedly points out how old she is after she mistakenly says he is 45 (he is actually 43). The Janitor is the one who initially brought up the "Young Carla" comparison to Nurse Martinez.

[edit] J.D.'s girl names

  • Joanna
Did you know, J.D's parents thought he was going to be a girl. They didn't have a name ready when he was born, so until he was 3 years old they called him Joanna.Julie Quinn
I don't know who you are, but thank you for this.Dr. Cox

Joanna, now I'm not much for this sensitive crap but darn now you finally found someone who is willing to let you annoy them instead of me.Dr. Cox

[edit] Episode Running Gags

  • Jordan, along with every other female in the hospital, has a crush on the new gynecologist, Dr. Matthews.
  • Julie's godfather is Billy Dee Williams.  Turk keeps calling him "Lando Calrissian," (after the character that Billy Dee played in the Star Wars films) which annoys him.
  • Jordan gets so drunk when the girls go out, that she ends up in a catatonic state.  Dr. Cox describes her as how alcohol affects "the very, very old."  He later puts a fake arrow on the unconscious Jordan's head.
  • Carla starts a rumor that Nurse Martinez is really a man.

[edit] Guest Stars

[edit] Music

  • "Happy Together" by The Turtles
  • "Ride" by Cary Brothers

[edit] Quotes

Ravish me.Carla's narration

Don't listen to her, Brown Bear.! Your body's fierce.J.D.
Is it?Turk
Like Taye Diggs.
Taye. Diggs.

Look Julie, I'm very protective of J.D., so it's gonna take a lot to win me overTurk
Er, J.D. wanted me to introduce to my Godfather.Julie Quinn
Julie's a great girl.Billy Dee Williams
YYYAAA-AAAHHH-HHAA-HHHAAA-AAAHHH! Lando Calrissian! Come here.Turk
Ah, you can call me Billy Dee.
Yes, Lando, yes.

Well! Look what we have here! It is a visual representation of how alcohol effects people of different ages. We have the young...Dr. Cox
Morning!Julie Quinn
...the slightly older...
Please stop talking.Elliot
...the slightly older still...
ahngnemamagnbaCarla
...and last the very, very, very old. She is unconscious and virtually unwakeable. Witness.

[Starts shaking a lifeless Jordan]

Jordaroo, Jordalicious, Jordaroni. Hah ha!

If Jordan were conscious, she'd agree.Dr. Cox

[Jordan sat on the couch still lifeless, but now with a fake arrow through her head]

Ah, now who put that fake arrow through her head? Huh, which one of ya?...It was me. I did it.

So, when am I gonna get to meet Julie?Turk
Do I want her to meet Turk this soon? What if he doesn't like her?J.D.
What are you doing?
I'm saying all my thoughts out loud so that I don't mess this relationship up.
I don't understand.
I forgot, sometimes Turk is slow. You know what? It's time for her to meet the people in my life. I think she's going to do great

You know what's interesting Turk? She's not saying "that's so sad". She's actually crying.J.D.
You're an idiot.Turk
Yes I am.

Did you know J.D.'s parents thought that he was going to be a girl. They didn't have a name ready when he was born, so until he was three years old, they called him Johanna.Julie Quinn
I don’t know who you are, but thank you for this.Dr. Cox

Don't mean to bother anybody. I'm just showing nurse Martinez here around the hospital. That's our chief of medicine, that is a patient, and that [points at Carla] is you in twenty years. Okay, let's go look at dead people.Janitor

That nurse makes me feel so old.Carla
Oh, calm down, nurse Espinosa. I have it on good authority that she's a dude.Dr. Kelso
I made that stuff up.
Then it's time for her to meet Bob Kelso, licensed hetero.

You're a cute couple.Mr. Morgan
Thanks.J.D.
Wanna buy a baby?!
Ooh sweety?
No.Julie Quinn
I'm sorry, no thank you.J.D.

[edit] Trivia

  • This is the fourth episode, following "His Story", "His Story II" and "Her Story", in which the narration is done by someone else and not seen from J.D.'s point of view. This episode is narrated by Carla.
  • In this episode, despite giving up his narration, J.D.'s storyline is still the main plot of the episode.
  • J.D. says that Julie never laughs and only says "that is so funny", but Julie actually laughs at J.D.'s joke when he says to his neighbor that next time he would beat him at poker.
  • In Carla's diaper fantasy, she fantasizes J.D.'s internal monologue.
  • The girls J.D has messed up with according to Turk: Kylie, Jamie, Gift Shop Girl, Minnie McSkinny, Mole Butt (Elliot), Tina Two-Kids, Rumple Fugly and Heidi Horse-Face.
